RTP Startup Weekend

Here's another in a unique series I found recently thanks to a post on Dr. Jeannette Cate's blog. These might be described as 'grass roots' Seminars.

Maybe.

For one thing, you can VOTE on a city in their lineup (or add one to the list) so that they are aware of the interest in a location.

Then, they ask for someone local to step up to help coordinate things. They [Start Up Weekend] help put it together and thru their website(s) help with promotions (obviously) and who knows what else!

I told my Mom about the next one which will be in Columbus, Ohio. She just sold her B&B so she is kind of looking around for something else to do - something meaning business. I hope she goes.

Looks like it will be a good value too.

RTP Startup Weekend
July 11-13, 2008
Raleigh, NC

Host: Startup Weekend

Here's the lowdown on this particular event:

Startup Weekend is coming to the Triangle

We’ve got a date. We’ve got a location. Now we just need you. Come out and help start a company in a weekend. Startup Weekend will be held at Edge Office, Raleigh, NC on July 11-13, 2008.

What’s Startup Weekend about?

Startup Weekend has been described as jazz for entrepreneurs. Put a bunch of talented, passionate people in a building together for a weekend and see what happens. Weekends have taken place around the country. There was even a weekend in Chapel Hill last November. The idea is to launch a company (or multiple companies) in a single weekend.

Who is Startup Weekend for?

It’s all about the people that show up and what the group wants to create. Developers, designers, publicists, bloggers, photographers, videographers, sys admins, SEO experts, lawyers, marketers- anyone who wants to contribute can find something to do. Bored of your day job as a programmer and always wanted to write marketing text? Come to Startup Weekend and do just that. Try something different or do what you are really good at. But come prepared to contribute and to have fun.

What can I do now?

Go buy a ticket. With a plethora of talented people, this weekend will sell out quickly. We’re also looking for sponsors for the weekend. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring, contact Wayne Sutton at 919-816-2230 . If you want to help plan and organize the weekend, contact Jess Martin or Wayne Sutton at rtpstartupweekend @ gmail . com. We definitely welcome anyone who would like to get involved.

We hope to see you there.

Update: Just so you know, you are not constrained to only playing the role that you specify with the ticket type. Come July 11, if you want to do something completely different, that is totally fine. We just want to use that to get a feel for the skill-sets and interests of the group that signs up.

If You Go, Let Me Know!

They're looking at San Diego next which is pretty close to me! I'd like to know how you like it.
