RTP Startup Weekend

Here's another in a unique series I found recently thanks to a post on Dr. Jeannette Cate's blog. These might be described as 'grass roots' Seminars.

Maybe.

For one thing, you can VOTE on a city in their lineup (or add one to the list) so that they are aware of the interest in a location.

Then, they ask for someone local to step up to help coordinate things. They [Start Up Weekend] help put it together and thru their website(s) help with promotions (obviously) and who knows what else!

I told my Mom about the next one which will be in Columbus, Ohio. She just sold her B&B so she is kind of looking around for something else to do - something meaning business. I hope she goes.

Looks like it will be a good value too.

RTP Startup Weekend
July 11-13, 2008
Raleigh, NC

Host: Startup Weekend

Here's the lowdown on this particular event:

Startup Weekend is coming to the Triangle

We’ve got a date. We’ve got a location. Now we just need you. Come out and help start a company in a weekend. Startup Weekend will be held at Edge Office, Raleigh, NC on July 11-13, 2008.

What’s Startup Weekend about?

Startup Weekend has been described as jazz for entrepreneurs. Put a bunch of talented, passionate people in a building together for a weekend and see what happens. Weekends have taken place around the country. There was even a weekend in Chapel Hill last November. The idea is to launch a company (or multiple companies) in a single weekend.

Who is Startup Weekend for?

It’s all about the people that show up and what the group wants to create. Developers, designers, publicists, bloggers, photographers, videographers, sys admins, SEO experts, lawyers, marketers- anyone who wants to contribute can find something to do. Bored of your day job as a programmer and always wanted to write marketing text? Come to Startup Weekend and do just that. Try something different or do what you are really good at. But come prepared to contribute and to have fun.

What can I do now?

Go buy a ticket. With a plethora of talented people, this weekend will sell out quickly. We’re also looking for sponsors for the weekend. If you or your company is interested in sponsoring, contact Wayne Sutton at 919-816-2230 . If you want to help plan and organize the weekend, contact Jess Martin or Wayne Sutton at rtpstartupweekend @ gmail . com. We definitely welcome anyone who would like to get involved.

We hope to see you there.

Update: Just so you know, you are not constrained to only playing the role that you specify with the ticket type. Come July 11, if you want to do something completely different, that is totally fine. We just want to use that to get a feel for the skill-sets and interests of the group that signs up.

If You Go, Let Me Know!

They're looking at San Diego next which is pretty close to me! I'd like to know how you like it.

Pam Hoffman

"If you were to ask me, "David, I only have $1,000 to market my
product. Where should I spend this money to get the highest
return on my investment?" My response would be to invest it on
your personal education. Nothing will bring you a greater return
on your marketing dollar than your personal investment in
becoming a master of direct response marketing.

"I regularly spend thousands of dollars every year investing in
books, tapes, CD's, workshops, conferences, videos and every
other form of educational medium. In fact, as I have interviewed
many successful business people I have consistently found one
common trait. Each person had a passion and insatiable desire to
learn and invest heavily in their own private education."

eComXpo

This Seminar has the best of BOTH worlds! First off, it's free (i know you love that!) and then too, it can be had from your very own computer. Or your mom's, the one at the library, heck, anywhere you're allowed to use one! ;)

Check it out. I participated last year and it was really something then. They say it is even better this year. I'm already registered and it's on my calendar (very important!).

eComXpo

Cyberspace

From one of their pages...

*Leverage proven online networking tools to make new contacts or re-establish existing relationships.
*Networking online provides a highly effective way of having more conversations with a far greater number of contacts than would be possible at a traditional event.
*Easily identify the most important people to meet and go and meet them through various advanced technology. eComXpo features various networking and communication options including chat, email, Vcard exchange, group chat and profile matching.
*Between educational sessions and presentations, head to the Lounge on the show floor, and chat with others at the show.
*Leverage the new "Profile Match" Tool to automatically highlight attendees or exhibitors that match your interests.

I Hit The Motherload!

Thanks to Dave Taylor, thru a twitter post, I found a whole series of Seminars taking us up to 2022!

Now THAT is Future Pacing!

Here is a little bit about CES from their site...

Exhibitor Profile

Manufacturers, developers and suppliers of consumer technology hardware, content, technology delivery systems and related products and services. Browse the online International CES Exhibitor Directory, or learn how your company can exhibit at CES.

Attendee Profile

Verified registrants representing the United States, Canada, Mexico and more than 140 other countries include manufacturers, retailers, content providers and creators, broadband developers, wireless carriers, cable and satellite TV providers, installers, engineers, corporate buyers, government leaders, financial analysts and the media from around the world.

It happens every January, somewhat early in the month, in Las Vegas, NV and I have actual DATES lined up in my database for you thru 2022!

It just boggles my mind. Of course, that is how I tend to think of things - way future.

CES International
January 8-10, 2009
Las Vegas, NV

You can actually attend this event for Free (i know you love that!) if you register by November 1st, 2008. They do seem to be in earnest that you are part of the industry so have a good story! And...

MediaCampLondon

Here's something rather unique. A series of Seminars claimed by 'Social Media Mafia' and described as 'un-conferences' so if you like that sort of thing, and you happen to be in London on the 5th, check it out!

MediaCampLondon
July 5, 2008
London, England

It looks like a free event. You just visit the site and 'register' by adding your name to the list! Here's a handy banner to click on to do just that:

Looks like the sessions are really shaping up too. The last time I was in there it was mostly blank. Now, there are a few things on the agenda.

Here's the beauty of this thing too, you are part of the action too:

Use this page to state who you are, and what sessions or group conversations you'd like to run.

Remember - MediaCamp is all about participation! Anyone can and is welcome to run a session.

Add your session(s) (no longer than 1 hour) and a preferred time slot (it may change though)

You can literally make changes right to the page. Is that cool or what?

Chris Cardell's Entrepreneur Summit 2008

Something for our neighbors across the ocean:

Chris Cardell's Entrepreneur Summit 2008
June 27-29, 2008
London, England

This is one of the most interesting parts of their site I found:

Recession Proof Your Business
It really doesn't matter whether or not we're going to have an official 'recession' in the months or year ahead. Much of the damage has already been done. The media frenzy over the state of the Global economy is paralyzing much of the Business world with fear.

So we've added some new, last minute material to the Summit. One of the themes I and my team will now be focusing on throughout the Summit is recession proofing your business. What most business owners do not realise is that not only can you recession proof your business - but you can THRIVE through economic downturns if you know what you're doing.

You do not have to suffer during an economic downturn but you DO need to do things differently, sometimes very differently.

You will leave the Entrepreneur Summit with armour - plated protection against the whims of the economy. You'll have the tools, strategies and mindset to not just recession proof your business - but to excel while others panic.

It kind of makes me laugh to see our unemployment numbers.

A whoping 5% reported in a recent paper, yet who talks about the rate 19 times that equal to the 95% who are employed?

What about numbers like 25% unemployment in places like Argentina? At least that's a number I remember from before. What is it right now? I bet it isn't 5% or less...

I conclude that we're probably doing ok still.

It doesn't matter if YOUR economic situation is in need of help. Things could be perfect and you still might want a boost like this.

Dave Lakhani Renegades of Persuasion Workshop

What a wild place is Twitter! Two different people there mentioned this event TODAY and it was NOT in my database before today. Here is is now and it is to become an annual event so I know to watch out for it for you!

Dave Lakhani Renegades of Persuasion Workshop NEW!
June 27-28, 2008
Las Vegas, NV

Your host, Dave Lakhani, says...

"I've structured this training so that you can be exposed to the very best ideas in persuasion and influence today. I've chosen my speakers specifically for their ability to bring a particular level of training to you, each will provide you with another layer of persuasive skill that you can leverage at will. Allow me to introduce you to the speakers you'll be trained by. I'm going to give you their names and what they'll be teaching you, I'll give you their detailed biographies later and feel free to click on any of the linked names for their website or more info."

And then he lists your speaker/trainers.

This initial event is potentially free. You must meet the criteria he sets out on the site right above the info I added in quotes (most of it's pretty easy).

As of this writing, Dave has 4 seats left.

Carl Galetti's Internet Marketing Super Conference

I've been following the pre-Seminar calls for this one. Learned some pretty darn interesting stuff too!

Carl Galletti's Internet Marketing Super Conference
June 19-22, 2008
Las Vegas, NV

Carl Galletti says..

"The SECRET to Internet marketing success lies in multiplying yourself. The really BIG money only comes from knowing how to get multiples of your investments in traffic, manpower, etc. And you can't get at any other seminar or in any ebook or other even some high priced program.

"This year's speakers have been specially chosen so you get the latest, up to the minute, know-how in this area."

John Kremer's Ten Million Eyeballs Event in Minnesota

Another one in the series...

John Kremer's Ten Million Eyeballs Event in Minnesota
June 19-20, 2008
Minneapolis, MN

Your Host: John Kremer asks:

What could you do with 10 million eyeballs?

"What could you do with 5 to 10 million new visitors to your website? You could sell thousands of books. You could generate an email list of thousands and thousands of avid fans. You could build a top-rated website that allows you to generate on-going income for years to come. You could dominate the organic search results from Google, Yahoo!, and whatever else comes along. You could change the world. It is your choice."

Phoenix Internet Marketing Workshop

A Different Kind of Marketing Workshop

We've taken the feedback attendees have shared about other marketing conferences and decided to put our own spin on this event to help business executives get the knowledge they need to market online.

Instead of hearing a panel of speakers share four different viewpoints (leaving you to figure out which one is right), we'll give the stage to one expert who knows how to explain the nuts and bolts of their topic to the business executive. You will get the information that's critical to create your online marketing plan and you'll get it without all the industry jargon so common to larger Internet marketing conferences.

Whether you are a consultant, webmaster, business owner, or in-house marketing professional, you cannot afford to miss this opportunity to experience firsthand the latest developments in search engine strategy.

Online Marketing & Bootcamp

A recent find:

Online Marketing & Bootcamp
June 17-20, 2008
Burlington, VT

They Say:

What Makes OM Boot Camp Unique & Unsurpassed:

In a culture that promotes "bigger is better", we've taken a nod from some of the nations best educational institutions and set a clear intention to minimize the scale.

Why? Instead of getting lost in a sea of thousands at a huge conference center, at OM Boot Camp, we want you to meet your peers in an intimate setting, practice what you learn on computer-equipped workstations, and receive one-on-one attention from some of the best and brightest minds in the industry.

We've all left conferences with a list of unanswered questions, and OM Boot Camp is the only conference to offer a level of personalized attention that means you will leave with knowledge and skills that will work for YOUR business. You'll also build working relationships (not just a collection of business cards) with colleagues in your field.

Why Go To A Live Seminar?!?

"Why A Live Seminar...

"You might as well ask, why go to a live baseball game? Why not stay home and watch it on TV? You can also say the same for going to a live football, basketball, soccer, hockey or other sporting event.

"It's a TOTALLY DIFFERENT experience.

"Why go to a museum when you can see the same paintings much more easily (and more cheaply) in a free book at your local library? Or, why go to a live concert, when you can listen to the same music much more cheaply on a CD or DVD.

"Because, it's a TOTALLY DIFFERENT experience.

"And that's why you should attend a LIVE Internet marketing seminar.

"There are a lot of things you'll get out of a LIVE seminar event that you won't get out of an ebook, home study course, etc.

"Just one would be the networking with speakers, VIPs, and other attendees. But it goes way beyond that. The actual "shot in the arm" you get from listening to live speakers reveal their innermost and latest secrets will jump start our success like not other form of experience.

"Here's an example of networking with attendees that I personally had during a seminar. I was in the elevator going back to my room and asked the other person in the elevator (someone I had known from other seminars) what they were doing now. That five minute chat turned into a half-million dollar deal."

--Carl Galletti from his Seminar page

And there you have it. After a fully stuffed May (some 46 Seminars were logged into my database) the month of June is looking a little less packed. And June is a better month to hold a Seminar than May is. How weird. Jeff and I were pondering why - perhaps the hotels offer some pretty good deals for the month of May because it's not as good a month.

I Just Found This Great Website!

Inspired by Donna Fox

Donna Fox expressed something the other day on her blog that's been on my mind for awhile:

Where are all the WOMEN Internet Marketers?

I know there must be some.

Donna had a marvelous list of the women who speak from the stage. I actually recognized most of the names she had there. And the comments to that blog post; WOW, there are a lot of great women out there doing some wonderful things.

I've been 'mining' the comments from Donna's blog post. You see, women (and men) have been coming out of the woodwork mentioning SEMINARS in that comments section!

And I didn't know about some of them.

My life has been enhanced, and your Internet Marketing Seminar Listing Service will be served much better, because of it.

I should probably go back there and see what other goodies there are periodically...

I'm writing a reply to that blog post today. I thought I would delve into my own Internet Marketing Seminar database (it actually houses sci fi cons and RE Seminars as well) and see who I could see.

I'll go ahead and mention several things here. I'll put all the women who are hosting Seminars AND couples too. I'll briefly mention the IM Seminars they are producing or co-producing, and when and where they will be (if they are coming up). If they are past, you don't care about that until they come around again, do you?

There are quite a few so here goes...

Melissa Attree

Note: while her Seminar is past, Melissa is based in Johannesburg, Africa. A lot seems to be happening in that area these days, based on my research into IM Seminars alone.

1/2 Day Internet Marketing Seminar

Offered for free and they have refreshments. If you are the area, why not check it out?

1/2 Day Internet Marketing Seminar
June 10, 2008
Altrincham, Cheshire, England

Internet Marketing: Maximising Online Revenue

A practical approach to Internet Marketing, Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), Pay per Click Advertising (PPC) and Web Design; all explained in layman's terms.

I-COM knows that your website needs to generate revenue and return on investment.

It's great to have a beautiful website but if it's not developed properly it may never be found in the search engines, and even if potential customers do find it, they might get lost because it's not user friendly.

At I-COM we do build beautiful websites, we've even won an award for it, but more importantly we develop websites that generate revenue. We focus on building websites that can easily be found in search engines, but also we design websites that will make it easy for your prospective clients to do what you want them to do.

But we also know that it's not just about putting up a website and forgetting about it. To be successful and achieve great natural search engine listings you need to work hard optimising the site and making it relevant for your audience.

In this short, half day internet marketing seminar our search engine marketing professionals will teach you:

*What makes a good website design and its impact on search engine optimisation
*Technology issues to consider when building a search engine friendly site
*The do's and don'ts of pay per click advertising
*Tips for search engine optimisation (SEO) on your website
*How to avoid the search engine optimisation cowboys

By the end of the seminar you'll know some of our proven strategies and take away practical information that'll help you to generate more revenue from your website; and we'll provide refreshments as well.
